The expected publication date for the ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Standard has been extended again.
The International Standardisation Organisation has updated the publication date of the ISO 45001 on its website to December 2017.
Whilst the timetable for publication may have changed it is not all doom and gloom, however, as the Technical Committee ISO PC 283 working on the development of the ISO 45001 have reported that they are making progress.
The volume of comments made on the ISO 45001 Draft International Standard (DIS) was exceptionally large, with some 3000 comments made. However it is understood that many of these comments have been able to be resolved at a working group meeting sitting during October/November.To maintain progress an additional working group to be held on the 6-10 February 2017 in Austria has been factored into the timetable.
Richard Jones, head of policy and public affairs at the IOSH, has said “Spending additional time at this crucial development stage so that all voices will pay dividends in the long-run. It’s about creating a standard that is as good as we can all make it. As a result, the earliest publication date for ISO 45001 is the end of October 2017 at the earliest, but it could be in early 2018, if a Final Draft International Standard is required.”
A further draft of the standard should be available for public comment and is expected to be published sometime in June 2017.
