BRC Global Food Safety Standard Issue 7
The BRC standard is a recognised food safety standard which extends throughout the UK and the globe. If you are not accredited to BRC then the chances are that you wont be supplying the UKs major supermarkets, if you are currently going through the process of implementing BRC Version 6 then you may be in for a shock as issue 7 draft is at the final stages and will be published in January 2015 with audits commencing July 2015.
The BRC working group for issue 7 has now completed its final review of the current standard, taking into consideration comments on Issue 6, as well as emerging food safety issues and has now developed a standard which encompasses additions and a number of major changes including:
Purchasing of products and materials from agents and brokers;
Risk assessment on incoming raw materials;
Dedication of maintenance tools in high care and high risk process areas;
Threat and vulnerability assessment within the supply chain, and;
Adulteration and substitution of raw materials and finished product, to name but a few.
Why the changes?
It is essential that Food Manufacturers continue to practice with a food safe and legal approach to their businesses by embracing and implementing changes to recognised standards.
New standards are developed to ensure compliance to safe guard the business and the consumer. Since the publication of BRC Standard for Food Safety Issue 6 in January 2012 there have been a number of food safety issues around traceability, threats and vulnerability to the consumer which have generated the scheduling of version 7
