TIMELINE FOR ISO 45001 STILL ON TARGET FOR MARCH 2018
The International
Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) timeline for publication of the ISO
45001 standard is still on track for March 2018. The Final Draft
International Standard ISO/FDIS 45001:2017 (commonly referred to as FDIS) came
out at the end of November 2017 with the closing date for comments on 25
January 2018.

NEW TIMELINE FOR ISO 45001
The International
Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) has released a timeline for publication
of the ISO 45001 standard. The second publication of the Draft
International Standard ISO/DIS 45001.2:2017 (commonly referred to as DIS2) came
out in May 2017 with the closing date for comments on 13 July 2017.
Depending on the number of comments received the standard could still be
published in November 2017. The ISO published timeline does, however, put
publication of the Final Draft standard (FDIS) in November 2017 with the expected
publication for the standard in March 2018.

POSSIBLE NOVEMBER RELEASE OF 45001
The expected publication date for the ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Standard could now be in November 2017. Once released it will replace the widely used OHSAS 18001:2007 standard.
There have been several delays to the expected release, but the latest copy has now been issued for comment by BSI. According to sources, amendments from the initial draft are minimal, raising the potential of skipping the publication of an FDIS in favour of speeding publication of the full international standard. If the draft is not approved and changes are required the international standard could be released early/mid 2018.

ISO 14001 DIS Progress Update: The ISO 14001 DIS approved and is on track.
Progress continues apace on the ISO 14001 revisions. The ISO 14001 Draft International Standard has now been approved and is on its way to becoming a Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) after 92% of member bodies of the International Standards Organisation (ISO) approved the draft. Although there is as yet no news on when the FDIS will be published, it also means that the timetable for publication of the ISO 14001:2015 remains on track for publication in 2015.
The next meeting of the working group will be held in Tokyo in February next year to consider comments.
ISO Standards Update: ISO/DIS 9001:2015 Approved
The Draft International Standard for quality management, ISO 9001 has been approved following the closure of the ballot. About 90% of members voted to progress the DIS to the next stage with any comments being taken into account by the working group in the next publication.
This means that the DIS can now move forward to Final Draft International Standard (FDIS), currently forecast for publication in July 2015, before the ISO 9001:2015 standard is published in September 2015.
The ISO's Technical Committee Number 176, Sub-committee Number 2 (ISO/TC 176/SC 2) is responsible for the development of the ISO 9001 and for ISO 9004 International Standards as well as other International Standards and documents in the ISO 9000 series.
Nigel Croft, Chair of the ISO subcommittee revising the standard said "We are on the right track, and we are on schedule for publication". He added, "The new version is very strongly based on three basic core concepts: that process approach which was very successful in the 2008 version of the standard superimposed on that system of processes is the plan-do-check act methodology, and a third core concept which is new in the 2015 version is risk based thinking, aiming at preventing undesirable outcomes."

The Draft International Standard (DIS) has recently been released and this workshop, based on the DIS, is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and guidance to transition an existing Quality Management System based on ISO 9001:2008 to the one based on the forthcoming update.

Posted: 28 July 2014 - Over 1.2 million organisations are certified to ISO 9001, which is considered by the International Standards Organisation (ISO) as “the world’s most popular standard” whilst the ISO 14001 environmental standard is used by approximately 250,000 certified users in 155 countries worldwide.
These standards are reviewed by Technical Committees on a five yearly basis and the time for change has come. The Standards need to move organisations on and into the future, and this time there will be major changes for all those concerned with quality, environmental and also for occupational health and safety management system standards.
The draft standards (DIS) for ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 are now published for consultation using the standard systems framework. The ISO committee has finally agreed to the development of an occupational health and management system standard, ISO 45001. Holders of this new standard will achieve global recognition and the OHSAS 18001 standard and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) model will disappear.
Expected publication dates for the new and revised standards are currently:
• ISO 9001:2015 Quality management systems due to be published in late 2015
• ISO 14001:2015 Environmental management systems due to be published in late 2015
• ISO 45001:2016 Occupational health and safety management systems due to be published in late 2016
If you are responsible for the upkeep and development of management systems, if you are a management systems consultant or if you are a systems auditor you need to be able to monitor developments and keep up to speed with the facts and the timescales.
